CinePerson is CinemaScope’s way of recognizing its member’s hard work, dedication and ability. That honor has been given to Rabiul Hoque in Spring 2020 semester. It was his 9th semester. Rabiul contributed to CinemaScope with his position of CEO of CinemaScope for three consecutive semesters.
Rabiul Haque was born and raised in Sandwip, Chittagong. His primary and secondary education was from Sandwip Public School. He came to Dhaka to complete his HSC and settled here. His entire childhood was spent reading and dwelling on a lot of breathtaking Masud Rana paperbacks, whilst he aspired to be a detective as a grown-up. His interest in films started to develop from the time his parents used to calm his stubbornness and tantrums by simply putting him to watch a movie. Soon, it became his coping mechanism, and he got addicted to it. Inspired by “The Shawshank Redemption”, he secretly cut a hole into his book to hide his mobile phone for watching movies. Prior to his admission to ULAB, he knew about Cinemascope. Although his target was to get into ULAB TV and even after getting interviewed, he chose to join Cinemascope. Rabiul’s interest and expertise in filmmaking is production management. He found his comfort zone as the production manager in many projects. He joined the Cinemascope’s executive body as Workshop head, in his 3rd semester. Gradually, he got the position of Screening head. After fulfiling his duties as Event Manager he became the CEO for 3 consecutive semesters. He worked in different sectors of the media industry. His prominent work being “Friday ”, in which he worked as the Assistant Director and Prop manager and “Sealed deal” in which he worked as an Assistant Directorand also a Cast. Moreover, he shot one Cinemascope promo and arranged an acting workshop with Afsana Mimi. He got his first big project in a documentary, named “Social Tumor” as a production manager. For this job he traveled in different locations of Bangladesh for its shooting. Simultaneously, he worked in some TVC projects and a promo for DIMFF for the past couple of years. Rabiul Hoque states his favorite filmmaker is Tareque Masud, and his ultimate favorite film is 3 Idiots, directed by Rajkumar Hirani. He believes cinema is a medium for captivating essences of art history, art culture, contemporary culture, and prehistoric domains for the present insights and knowledge of the future generations. His message to present members, he stated “You have to give something to achieve something from here. It is a place of volunteer work and you will learn from your own work. The most important thing is to keep going and don’t be disappointed.”
