Md Akash Islam has been picked as the CinePerson for the Spring 2022 term. CinePerson is the most prestigious of the laurels for CinemaScope members. This award is given to the most active member of the film apprenticeship programme of the University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB). CinemaScope is committed to grooming and training students having a flair for creation and aesthetics of film production.
The shy kid from Dhaka was always fascinated by outdoor sports, but eventually he got lost in the world of photography as a photo enthusiast. And that very fascination and passion for photography has brought him to the world of cinema. With a strong bent for working in the cinema industry, Akash joined CinemaScope to know more about the world behind the camera. In the beginning of his CinemaScope journey, Akash worked with several short films like “Sharee”, “Friday”, “Dark”, “Obsessed” and “Lighthouse”. He also directed his own short film “Opurnota” in this journey.
Along with all this production, Akash Islam actively attended several filmmaking workshops, masterclasses, film reading sessions and many other events to understand the cinematic world. He also sat on the CinemaScope executive committee, working as the production secretary and workshop head. The advance workshop on ‘Make-up’ hosted by Akash was one of the long-awaited events of CinemaScope in the Spring 2022 term.
Akash always admired internationally-acclaimed Indian film auteur, director and screenwriter Satyajit Ray for his movie-making techniques. Ray’s cinematic eye has always inspired Akash to be a better filmmaker. Akash always says: “To be a filmmaker, you need to be a leader. You have to be mentally motivated to do something different. People always take the shortcut, the shortest path, to success. But you have to work hard to get something special or unique.” Presently, Akash is working as a freelance editor and he aims to work as a full-time cine professional in the Bangladeshi film industry.
